Abstract: The defining feature of the sociolinguistic situation in Asia Minor in the second millennium BCE is the coexistence of several influential language communities, which finds a reflection in the multilingual cuneiform archive of Hattuša. While the majority of texts found there were composed in Hittite, also known as Nesite, other languages directly attested in the same archives are Hattic, Hurrian, Akkadian, Sumerian, Luwian, Palaic, and Mittanian Aryan. Furthermore, several ethnic groups that inhabited the territory controlled by Hattuša or the adjacent parts of Asia Minor left indirect traces in Anatolian cuneiform sources. The purpose of this chapter is to trace the ethnic diversity in Late Bronze Age Anatolia using both textual and linguistic evidence.]
